Two Questions F/30 or 32

Posted by kholden@…> (kholden@…>)

I have two questions regarding my F-30 sloop rig. I have always kept my Lazy Jacks tight. Basically tie them on at the start of the season, and leave them. Are others seeing an increase in performance by loosening the lazy jacks once the main is up?

I have lost the tube portion (not the pole) of my gun-mount spinnaker apparatus. I am attempting to have one made as efforts to buy one have failed. I obtained a copy of the original plans from Gary Hoyt although changes had been made over the years. As I recall my former tube, it had some type of liner inside the tube. Does anyone know the material of that liner and the thickness? I am also curious about the bolt-does yours have some type of rubber washer that rests between the tube itself and the bowspirit? Any comments, recommendations or photos would be appreciated.

I have a solid vang and adjust my lazyjacks so the boom just clears
the bimini. This is lower than the sailing position. When dropping
the sail, the boom is vanged down and the jacks are tight. sailing,
the’re loose. No further adjusting.

As long as your setting permits you to flatten the sail–in case of
strong wind–you are OK.

The material inside the tube looked like PVC cut from a pipe that would
fit inside the tube. I put some Teflon from a roll I bought from a
woodworking store and lined the tube with that to decrease fiction. I
am talking about a F-21 but this should apply to all tubes.

If I had my druthers, I’d use teflon for the liner. If not that, then
Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). You want
self-lubricating characteristics, which PVC is lacking. Herm
