Upward rudder play in a 40/40

When I hauled my 40/40 this fall I noticed that my rudder had been giving the boat a belly scratch. I have been going through how this can be adjusted by looking at the drawings in the manual and am not sure how one would address this problem.
I reached out to Paul Dennis over a month ago, but have not heard back. Anyone have any words if wisdom for me?

Maybe not the same thing BUT down Maine approaching a swing bridge, I swung the rudder way over and it got stuck giving my Freedom 36 a belly rub. I got it unstuck just before the bridge BUT was wary of sharp turns until I visited Freedom. They put in rudder stoppers so I could not swing the rudder to the point it would hit the hull and get stuck. Never a problem after that.

I did do some sharp turns getting to know how she behaves. Maybe that forced the rudder up and then she settled back down again

There are supposed to be 2 screws with rollers that are drilled into the rudderstock that ride along the bearing. These may have worked themselves out, and allowed it to ride up.

Ahh ok. Do i have to drop the rudder to get eyes on where the screws need to be? I must admit that i have not gone down into the lazorette yet. Its great motivation to go on a diet.

Yes, you do have to drop the rudder. I’m in South Africa, getting my new boat ready to sail back to the US, so I don’t have access to my rudder photos. Sorry!

Good luck with your new boat! Thank you for your tips.
