Used Freedom 24 (Tripp)

Posted by ride_of_freedom (jhvis@…>)

I intend to buy a 1997 built Freedom 24 (Tripp design). As very
little information is available in the Netherlands (only 2 Freedom 24
overhere) I hope somebody is willing to share his or her experiences
with this small yacht.

The Freedom 24 I checked wasn’t dry. About 2 cm of water was present
at the bottom in the cabin. Obviously I want to know where it comes
from. Could it be the mast or do I have to look elsewhere as well?
(The present owner has left the boat unattended, unventilated in the
water for at least 2 years.) Does this water harm the present foam?
Is the gell-coat of good quality (osmoses??) I also spotted several
cracks on the polyester surface, is this common?

The keel is locked with a bolt, this bolt has however weared out the
polyester causing the fixation of the keel being poor. This has been
repaired with two steel plates, laminated on to the polyester. Is
this a good fix? Can I expect any problems with the keel in future?

Does the rudder (mount) require extra attention? Some cracks present
at the mount.

Are there any other things I need to look at before buying?
I intend to go for a test sailing next week.

What price-level do I have to anticipate for a 1997? (Sails in good
condition, interior bad, lots of extra equipment)

Your advise is very welcome.

Kind regards,

JH Vis

Hi,
They didnt make very many F24’s (like 12 or so) I considered buying
one in real nice condition for 29K which eventually sold. There are
just not too many around. What is he asking? DOes it have the
trailer and folding mast?

Hi, thanks for responding.

In the mean time I agreed a price of 18k. Unfortunately there is no
trailer, it does have the folding mast though. Within 2 weeks I’ll go
for a test sailing and have a look at it once taken out of the water.
I don’t have to decide until then. I already heard the bulb-keel
needs extra attention.

Hans,
I think 18k should be ok for that boat depending on how bad the int
is. Good luck and let me know how you make out. Like I said I
looked at the F24 and Like it very much.
