I wonder what people recommend for “finishing” my tiller. I have read
a little bit about oils vs. varnishes vs. synthetic finishes. I don’t
suppose it matters awfully much, but I’d like a material that lasts a
few seasons, looks nice and woodish, and protects the wood from water
and sunlight and dirt. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi Peter,
No matter which varnish you end up using, buy a UV resistant Tiller
cover which will help to protect it from sunlight and water
deteriation. If you look around the internet or at your local marine
store they are $20 - $30 but are well worth it. Good luck with the
varnish.

it looks fine. I do have, and use a tiller cover.
