By my measurements/eyeballing there is very little room from the topsides to the
point
where the hatch slides in. Even if I removed the inner sliding ring that closes
off the vent it
would still be way too deep. BTW, this is the stainless steel model - I think it
was about
$100.
The line at the back of the boom is the main halyard. My standard practice on
boats
without topping lifts is to run the halyard back to get more lift and control on
the boom
when the sails are down.
