vertical windlass

Has anyone installed a vetical windlass on an F30? If so, are you
happy.

I have an F36, so I can’t speak for the F30, but in my opinion a
vertical windlass is the only way to go. We installed a small
vertical (with 965 pounds of pull, more than enough for the 35- 45
lb anchor and chain) which weighs in at only 25 pounds and uses
about 45 amps. The gypsy (for chain) can be disconnected so you can
still run the drum. The vertical orientation means that you can, in
effect, pull from any direction- ie: if you want to pull off to the
side to drag yourself off a grounding. The moderate current drain
means that any boat with at least a 55 amp alternator can use it
without any problem. I’m very happy with it. Lenny

Sorry, I forgot to mention the name of the windlass. It is a Lofrans
Marlin vertical with capstan. We got the optional larger motor, but
the standard motor would be fine for your F30. I can’t say enough
(good things) about IMTRA, the importer. They carefully went over
correct installation tips at the boat show where I ordered (they
don’t take orders- we ordered from Sailnet) and when I needed longer
mounting bolts they sent them N/C right away.

Speaking of IMTRA their ‘scratch and dents’ go up for sale on EBAY. They are
outrageously good values, minimal scratch or dent- my Lofrans progress 1 had the
tiniest of scratches which disappeared after I used it twice. Got the windlass
at half price or less. They are accessible on the phone, and havfe given me
great service also.
