Long shot ,but just in case someone is on the"cutting-edge" of racing and replaced their old, hopefully still useful sails (not looking for perfection). I have a newly acquired 21’ project boat with NO sails or rudder. I can make the rudder, but really hoping someone out there might have some sails that are not in use and could use some $$$ for their boat budget. Any insights welcome, happy to find this forum. THANKS.

Hi Jim,
Not sure if you’re still looing but I just put a new rudder on my F21 (a J-80 rudder, actually) and have the old one hanging around if you’re interested. Also have a main I’ve been trying to pawn off on anyone that’s interested. Let me know if you need either or both.

Hi Moose,
Glad to get your response,
I have got a good rudder and a main that will work. I will update my post to reflect. The prospect of a spare main does appeal as the one I’m using is a retrofit. Sounds like you don’t consider yours as precious, so let me know what your comfort level allows for parting with it Ideally, if you’re not far off my current track of driving between Florida and Michigan, I’ll meet up with you and do the deal in person.

I’m in Newport, RI, so the chances are pretty slim we can meet on the side of the road. I’m putting my boat in next weekend, I currently have a Kevlar main for racing and two Dacron mains, I have seen one and I’m going to put up the other one to see which is better, whichever I don’t want I’ll give you if you pick up the shipping, does that work for you?
That’s TOO generous!!! So, to make this worth your time (and likely improve on the rudder I fabricated, put a price on your unused rudder and your spring-cleaning will be well along.
I’ll look into some shipping options, If you live near a Greyhound terminal, (if they connect to Ann arbor, too) they cargo anything that will fit in their Luggage compartments and only charge by the pound. It may be easier than having to box it to conform with UPS and Fed-Ex packing policies. I’ll explore the feasibility and see if it could work. Feel free to call me if anything comes to mind, my cell is (734)717-3646.
So GLAD to have discovered this site, Thanks for responding.
No problem. Let me just get the boat in the water next weekend and sail with the other dacron main first so I can figure which one I want to keep. Also want to make sure the rudder I put on works as I expect it should, explore what you think is the best way to ship it, if you don’t have a good way I can UPS it from my buisness.
GREAT!! Hope things go smoothly and the weather is cooperative.
Hi, Just wanted to get you My direct e-mail, so making contact will be a bit simpler. It is “jferrio@yahoo.com”. After the “sea-trials” are complete, Let me know what you won’t need to keep your Freedom sailing well. Mine is getting a little closer to the water but have had a lot of distractions. Summer is moving too fast!!!
All The Best, JIM
