What grease to use on the rudder bearings?

Posted by CMarshall (cmars@…>)

My Hoyt F32 has the zerk fittings on the rudder bearing.
I finally got around to taking the wood panels off back there.
Sometimes I wish to just take all the furniture, liners, etc
off the boat…
What sort of grease is recommended to be used and how often?
Thanks,
Charles

ps Thanks for all the info on autopilots. I’m going with
the Raymarine wheelpilot.

This is kinda interesting. It would appear that the same grease
fitting (zerk) situation occurs in Hoyt 32s also. A friend of mine
swears that there is no zerk fittings on the rudder bearing housing
of their 32, where mine has four. One on each side both top and
bottom. For the life of me I can’t understand why TPI discontinued
these fittings, which is all I can assume, as the other boat is a
later model than mine. Believe me, these grease fittings are
benefical, they keep my helm feather light, with no leaks.

Has anyone else run into this situation?

Any kind of lithium based underwater type grease is OK. Should be done (according to owners manual) every month! Tho ours didn’t get a squirt for years I’d bet.
