What is a fair price for a used Freedom 21 sailboat?

The original cost of a Freedom 21 was approximately $13,000. Over
the
last few years, I have seen prices from $3000 to $ 6000 for a
minimally equipped 1983/84 Freedom 21. Current sailingtexas listings
average of six F-21s is $4,200.

J22s are very similar in size/construction and were built in the same
factory. Cost of a J22 were similar. Looking at seven 1983/84 J22’s
on the current sailingtexas site, the average price is $8,950.

There are only some 300 Freedom 21s that were built in the USA so
being short in supply should garner a higher price.

Bottom-line: If you bought your F-21 for less than $5,000, you got a
bargain. If you are selling your F-21 (if in reasonable condition)
the price should be at least $5,000. If in good condition and have
ample outfitting the price should be as much as $7,000.

That a $3000+ question.

1.Blistering is an issue on some boats,

2.Wet balsa coring in the deck is also a common sign of neglect. I
think the wraparound plexiglass ports were worse than the opening ports.

  1. Eventially the mast has to be refinished. You can see that the
    morning dew has a strong affinity for the cracks - as they widen
    moisture will get in.

  2. The scupper drains can leak. If you like working upside down in
    drainpipes you can do it yourself.

  3. Motor: 4hp is enough on small lakes, 6HP is better - it will get you
    up to hull speed, 8HP is overkill unless you sail on on rivers and big
    water (and it weighs more).

  4. A “proper” fully battened sail was just mentioned on the board
    elsewhere as costing $3000.

  5. The spinnaker and boom hardware was extra.

  6. The lifelines, stern rail and stancions were extra (you need them
    with kids).

  7. If the padeyes, ports etc. are maintained the will be no signs of
    water in the boat other than a bit of dirt in the bilge and maybe
    stains at the very bottom of the teak as water seems to get trapped
    there.
