We bought the ‘95 F4040, Bleu Moon, last August. Last September, while at her mooring, the headstay parted.
No big whoop. We sailed to Cuttyhunk that day. It would have been a very different experience if underway and in the typical 12-15 knots on Buzzard’s.
Hi Martin,
That sounds exciting, to be considering a Freedom 30!!
I have an ‘87 F-30 in the Portland ME area and it’s been a terrific boat for us. We previously had a F-25 for 20+ years.
My first thought when buying any sizeable boat is to pay the money and do it right (e.g. no expensive surprises later) by having a marine surveyor review the boat for issues big and small.
Many (all?) brands and sizes of boats have typical issues that can differ across their make/size range, F-30’s included, and a surveyor can check to see the status.
I’m happy to email you my pre-purchase survey from 3.5 years ago, but that won’t identify or determine the scale of your potential boat’s issues.
Let me know. Best wishes!! ![]()

Thank u so much for your response and generous offer. I do intend to get a survey But I like doing a presurvey to eliminate obvious problems. I would appreciate your old survey. I had looked at Nonsuch’s for a while and they have a very active user group offering much support to to new and potential owners. Is there an equivalent organization for Freedoms
I am very encouraged by your enthusiasm. I have owned my Bristol 35 for 40 years and have decided to downsize to a boat which is easier to single hand and maintain, The Freedom 30 seems to check many of these boxes
Thank u again

Hi Martin,
Please send me a private message or chat, with your email address and I’ll forward the survey to you. I think you may find value in it.
