I want to replace the 24 in. wheel on the standard Edson mount ofour
F30. The small wheel gives poor leverage in rough seas, doesn’t allow
me to comfortably stand on the seats to look over the dodger when
surfing downwind or piloting in the ICW , and can’t be reached from a
comfortable siting position on the cockpit seat back when going to
weather. I am looking at a 36 in. 40 in. wheel. Any advice?

Ps: Would much prefer a tiller…but most agree that that move would
make the boat hard to resell.

I have a 34" on my 36 and the benches will interfere with anything
larger. I assume the bench spacing and height are similar on the 30.
I’m toying with the idea of going smaller because it is
difficult to move around the binnacle. I picked up a 24" wheel on
Ebay last fall and only got to use it on the winter layup run but
certainly felt the difference in leverage. Maybe I’ll sail with the
Otto the pilot and small wheel, keeping the large wheel stowed and
available for following seas and heavy weather. Or maybe I’ll just
get the knee replacement

I believe that the wheel on my F30 is 32". Not as big as I might like, but certainly acceptable.

Thanks for the note on your F36. The bench spacing on our F30 will allow a wheel diameter up to 42 inches…but a 36 in. wheel might be the best compromise. Will keep you posted.
