I currently have a 5hp Nissan and am thinking of replacing it. So far,
I’m leaning toward a Yamaha 4hp, 4-Stroke. I’d love to hear any
feedback if anyone has this motor …
Or
What are you using to power your F21?
Long shaft or short?
Thanks,
Jim

6hp 4 stroke Tohatsu bought this fall online for $1,250. 20" shaft - I had considered 25" ultra-long. I think it may have been a better choice.Sean #307From: sailing285 <sailing285@…>Sent: Monday, November 24, 2008 7:59 PMTo: freedom21@yahoogroups.comSubject: [freedom21] Which Outboard?I currently have a 5hp Nissan and am thinking of replacing it. Hi Jim. Very recently Sean Mulligan went through the “wondering about
outboards” stage, and there are a bunch of thoughtful posts about
different horsepower and 4 vs 2 stroke. My understanding is that 4
stroke engines weigh more, and cost more, but are less polluting. I
have a long-shaft 8 horsepower 2 stroke Evinrude Sailmaster. Most
people on this board feel that 8 HP is way more than one needs, but up
until I got a mooring in Salem harbor , I had to get up and down the
Merrimac river in Newburyport—and 8 horses just about did it some
days.
If you enter “outboard motors” in the search box I bet you’ll get some
good info.

Thank you for the feedback on the outboards. I opted for a new Yamaha 4
hp, 4 stroke, long shaft. I was hesitant as to the performance of a 4
hp as Tampa Bay currents can be quite strong from time to time but was
pleasantly surprised how well it moved her right along. The weight is
only 48 which will be nice for next seasons Friday night racing.

Jim,
My sister lives on Davis Island and untill a couple of months ago kept
a classic Morgan 38 at DIYC. Since sale of “Rolling Thunred” she and
her husband are now boatless, I am considering taking “Teke’s Pride”
with me when I drive down for the Christmas Holiday in a couple of
weeks. What is the sailing like on Tampa Bay in late December?
My sister says I shouldn’t bother but I think she is mostly concerned
about me spending a lot of money on the gas for towing my boat down to
Tampa and then back to North Alabama. Rugular unledded in running
about $1.55 to $1.65 a gallon here this weekend. How is fuel in the
Bay Area?
