I am really interested in this model, but would love to hear why
others chose it over more conventional yachts?? ie- stayed rigs with
aluminium masts
There is alot of 40-46’CC’s out there (Moody, Hunter, Morgan, etc), so
what made you chose the freedom 45?
Your feedback is much valued
Cheers,

Wayne, Why a Freedom ? 1. Quality. Much better than the 2 US brands that you mentioned. Moody, I have heard different opinions ? There are others quality builders in the US and abroad however. 2, Free standing CARBON rig. Much less maintenance and I believe safer. I have owned 6 previous stayed sailboats and although I have had no failures on any boats I have owned, the 180 bits that kept the masts up on my ketch were a source of worry offshore. I have experience a rigging failure on a world renowned sailmakers race boat, I can assure you that next to an onboard fire it is no fun ! Alloy, free standing masts whip around a lot. Nonsuch have moved up to carbon masts as Freedom did very early on. 3. Esthetics. All the Fredooms look good. Very
subjective, though. Nice to have a pretty boat. I have owned 2 Morgans, a 36’ racer and a 41’ and have had no problems. The OI 41-6 has an interior that is hard to beat. Strong boat. So is the M43 and M46. The OI 41-6 model sails better than many people give it credit for. All 3 for a lot less money. But, these are now very old. I like the original Freedomn lifting keel CC40 a lot. For Carribean sailing. THE GREATEST F 44 is on the market now. It would be my definite choice of any Freedom for offshore. Your sailing program should define YOUR choice. I looked at all the usual suspects, and time and again we came back to
the interior layout of the F45 as being superior. And when all is
said and done, the interior is where you spend the majority of your
time.
Two years later we still feel the same, although the lack of deck
storage space does come up on a regular basis. I added a radar
arch/davits set up to provide additional storage space, although this
space is exposed to weather.
We have hull # 30, she sails well, is easily handled by two people and
the boat behaves well under power, a key component is selecting a boat.
I have made my peace with a cored hull, it requires much more diligent
attention to detail and watching what workers do.
We base Jade Moon in St. Pete Fla and have found it hard to find
people who know how to work on this boat/rig. We are contemplating a
trip up the east coast to get to a location where people understand
our rig. I have traveled to meet Paul Dennis, and Mark Edwards, and I
highly recommend you establish a relationship with Paul, several times
I have had to call him for advice.
