I’ve seen several posts about the Winchrite on this and other forums. I have owned the Winchrite V5 since 2012, having bought it at the Newport Boat Show, and absolutely love it! I sail a 1989 F32 and often single-handle or with inexperienced crew. The Winchrite saves my back and makes raising the main really easy. It is a great product. Particular advantages are that it has a variable 2-speed motor, is waterproof, and can easily charge on 12V or 120V. Can a drill match those qualities?
I lubricate the mast track and sail slugs with a dry lube I buy at Home Depot. Much cheaper than similar products at marine chandleries but just as good. Not only does the main go up more easily but it also drops quickly, which, as you can understand, is important as well.
The Winchrite comes with several accessories. Whenever I’ve had an issue with it, which has been rare (like the weather cap coming loose) the company has taken care of it quickly and for little cost.
I understand that the newer version, the Winchrite ABT is more powerful, better battery etc., but my original product has been so reliable that I haven’t had the need to upgrade.
I heartily recommend this product to anyone looking to make their sailing life easier.
