Looking to purchase a Gun mount for my Freedom 30 that I bought over the Summer in Cleveland.
If anyone has one for sale please send me a message and what you’re looking to get for it.
TBH I don’t know if the Hoyt Gun Mounts are specific to each boat, once size fits all or to a range (i.e. 30/32 has a type, 36/38 a different) so if anyone can clue me in on that I would appreciate it, as I can’t seem to find an answer to that question specifically on the internet, so my Google-Fu skills must be waning.
I bought my mount and pole from a guy with a Mull 36.
You will need a gun mount pulpit. Do you have one on the boat? I had to buy one and retrofit. Was a major PIA. But doable. Problem is finding one.
The 36 pole is 18 feet long. I think the original 30 pole was 16 feet. No biggie. The 36 kite fit too which was a little suprising, but all good. The sail I got was fully disclosed by seller as being old and holey and that proved to be true when I quickly blew it out while offshore. I got another used spinnaker from a local shop here in SF. The sail dimensions are on the site somewhere.
Also several of us have posted documents and pics re how to rig and fly the gun mount spinnaker so make sure to look those up too.
Oh, sorry, just went back to your boat pic and see you DO have the correct pulpit. 75% of your problem is already solved. Worst case, fab a mount and pole and buy a new (or much cheaper used) spinnaker. Then prepare to buy what seems like 500 feet of line to rig the the thing.
I have a gunmount fixture off the boat and can send you dimensions for fab if you can’t line up a source. The mount is not particularly exotic. A 4 inch stainless tube welded to a stainless plate with a big bolt sticking out the bottom is about it.
Thanks MIke for the information and confirmation on the pulpit!
Sounds like I can use anything from the 30 up to the 36 and it will work.
If you have time and want to send me the dimensions of the Gun Mount and pole that would be really great as I’m probably going to get it done at the end of this year if I can’t buy one outright either here or somewhere else.
you can email it to me at bluemeenie01@gmail.com
Since I’m in Cleveland there are quite a few metal fabricators here, though it would be really nice to just find the original Hoyt diagrams he copyrighted and use those
