I’ve discovered, after some aggressive cross-referencing that the FRAM
3593A oil filter fits the 2GM engine (and probably the 3GM too). Those
who own Honda Accords will recognize the filter number.

Gentlemen
I caution you
about saving a couple of dollars on a Non-Yenmar filter for your Yenmar. I
doubt that FRAM design that filter to the Yenmar specifications. It is
un-likely, that the filtration(micron-level), by-pass and pressure handling as
well as other attributes are “better” then those of the Yanmar.
It is not enough to have the threads and seal interface match.
Diesel engine
longevity comes from longer hours in relation to the number of cold starts and also
good maintenance. Operator abuse is the primarey cause of premature
engine failure, espically in sail boats.

You might want to look at this web site photo before you decide that it is worth saving $4 to buy the Fram instead of the Yanmar filter: http://www.handa-accessories.com/15400.jpg. If the difference between the Fram and the OEM Honda in the photo are representative of the difference between all Frams and all OEMs, then the extra $4 once a year seems like a small price to pay.

Folks,
If you think you need better quality, but available at many outlets
including Walmart, I suggest FRAM TG3593A, the socalled “Tough
Guard” model. Herm (Freedom 28 Cat-sloop “Impulse”)
