A follow up on my recent post about black streaks in the (heat
exchanger )coolant antifreeze og my 2gm20f. I found this to be from
deteriorating rubber in the tubing in the overflow reservoir, HOWEVER
this did not correct the vacuum loss in the system (ie when I would
check the level in the exchanger before going out for a sail the level
would be low because the excess in the reservoir did not return to the
exchanger).
Correcting the problem was simple, had to replace the cap/cap assembly
and gasket under the assembly (part # 123682-44190 and 123682-44201)
Simple job, also upgraded to the orange extended life antifreeze as per
the Mack Boring suggestion.

Re: antifreeze. Yanmar recommends an anti-corrosive antifreeze, which is not
the stuff you see in most auto parts stores. You can get it from Caterpillar
dealers(it is red in color),and ,probably, from Yanmar. It is NOT the red
stuff sold as 100000 mile antifreeze for cars.As per Yanmar
