Yanmar Rubber Engine Mounts

Posted by methomp (methomp@…>)

I was informed by my local Yanmar Dealer that the rubber mounts are
supposed to be replace every 3 years or so. Mine have never been
replaced. I am putting together my winter project list and wondering
if this is a critical mainanance issue and if so, can I do it my self?

It is possible to do this job yourself. Run the engine. Put your
finger under the engine mount flange. If it is hitting the engine
mount stringer or very close, you may need mounts.

Prior to doing the job, however, investigate other sources of engine
mounts than Yanmar. At $100.00+/- per each, they are very expensive.
PYI, Globe and others make mounts that will work. It is just a
matter of getting the right weight range.

As for technique, just buy a basketball and a pump and use it as a
jack under the engine. Put a piece of plywood under the oil pan and
inflate the basketball. Replace one corner at a time. The hardest
part of the job is the engine re-alignment. You might want to hire
out that part of the job.
