Hi everyone.I need to have info on a stuffing box for my Yanmar 2GM20F for my 30F.I am trying to get the boat to my slip, but had to turn around and take it back to the boat yard, where I have been having upgrades and repairs.Water filled the pan below the engine, and it overflowed all over the sole.US TOW man told us, that part is no longer avail for F30 1987.Is there anyone out there that can help a first time novice?Thank you,LolaLdd

was a recent discussion on the Syntron shaft seal and one possible replacement
on this list; search the archives. Bottom line: except for one possibility,
nothing else fits. Also, are you sure that it is not just the rubber hose
that’s gone that’s gone? That’s nothing special.

Second on checking for the real source of water leaks. The original seals are real tough but so often abused with grease (which they were not built to use) and lack of water cooling, and sometimes running out of alignment for long periods. I have a long message on this forum about resuscitation the Syntron. We’ll stay tuned for help if we can.FargoEx F30 #12A

what I wrote about the F30 Syntron and on the website there are pics of how I
replaced my Syntron with a Lasdrop.
Syntron shaft seal usually has a straight
away rubber tube but again I have only limited knowledge speaking with the new
company and talking to others. As I stated in an early thread the Syntron
company was purchased by Garlock Klozure in Palmyra, NY.
The information on Syntron (Freedom 30):
Part # for a full unit RP-32 S/H
(stainless steel) or B/H (bronze) 1” shaft 2” stern tube
Repair or maintenance kit DIR-32
S/H (stainless steel) or B/H (bronze) 1” shaft 2” stern tube.
The maintenance kit is $499.07. The whole unit unfortunately must
cost a fortune! The front plate with the fours screws is $133.57. A
brand new new must be close to $700 if the maintenance kit is $500.

issue such as PSS and if space is any issue then Lasdrop Dry-Seal is workable

One more note I have a shaft saver which
is about 1 inch in width so the modification for the Lasdrop if you do not have
a shaft saver is even less maybe only an inch needs to be removed. See the
pictures on the forum.

As far as I can tell the syntron shaft seal is alive and well and
being manufactured by FMC technologies:

The PDF provides a pretty good engineering dwg of the seal so the
curious can see the guts.
Although I believe these units are manufactured one off. I’ve always
thought that this seal, properly installed and cooled, was probably
bullet proof, they are used in some pretty tough industrial environments.
