There is a diesel fuel leak coming from the edge of the fuel pump on my
Yanmar 3GM30F which is installed in my F-36. I can see a drop of fuel
forming near the gasket from the rear of the engine compartment but can’t
tell if it is coming from the gasket or the fuel line. I’ll try to tighten
the fuel connections but my question is - if it is the gasket is it
reasonable to replace it myself given the limited access to the area of the
pump. Any help here would be appreciated.

I asked almost the exact same question about my F36 on this BB about 4
or 5 years ago and received the assurance that it was possible to do
it yourself. I subsequently found out that that was true — but it
ain’t easy!!!
You’ll need to screw yourself into some ungodly positions and have a
lot of patience and some small tools, including a set of 1/4 inch
sockets. Good luck.

boy, you ain’t just a kiddin. I’ve hand that pump in
and out a few times, good God what a PIA!! I can
imagine what a mechanic would charge, Don’t forget,
you’ll need to buy a new gasget for the pump to block
interface, getting that gasget to stay put when you’re
trying to reinstall the pump is another joy. Buy one
of those little adjustable mirrors on a rod so you can
see what you are doing.
Also keep the wife and kids away on the big day, you
WILL NOT want to expose them the the language coming
out of the engine compartment. If you have a violent
streak don’t even consider ths job.

One of the damnedest pain in the ass tasks on the boat but, heres a
trick. Whenever you have to one hand an engine part, glue the gasket
in place on the part with gasket adhesive/sealant. Then use RTV
silicone and glue the bolts into their respective holes in the part
or into your socket wrench. Now you can place the part, and start the
threads with out needing a third hand.
Rodger that on the mirror, wife and kids.
