Hi. I have a Hoyt F32 with the camberspar jib . .
. the forestay should have 6” of play in it and the jib
halyard should be taught.

Melissa,
I’m a cat ketch sort of guy but my understanding on those sloop
Freedoms is that the camberspar helps compensate for not having a
whole lot of forestay tension. Sorry I can’t be more helpful but I’m
pretty sure that your headstay does not require anywhere near the
amount of tension that would be required on a conventional sloop rig.
Someone at Haarstick or David Bierig in PA could probably offer some
advice if noone on the list gives you some info.

Oh, I did want to ask if you knew…how tight should my forstay
be? As I was taking down the jib, I noticed that there is a definate
lack of tension on the stay. That’s a project I guess I’ll try to
tackle when Dad is here!

Yeah, I’ve noticed recently that the jib is really hard to get up and the forstay actually gives in when hoisting the sail (the caberspar actually pulls the stay back and it looks all bent out of shape), therefore, I think that it may need to get tightened up. But, thanks for all the suggestions!! I’ll see what I can do (without bending the mast…I did think of that) Cheers, Melissa Acedia F38 “Pollution is a silent form of violence” -Ralph Nader

The camberspsr will put a kink in the line of the head stay. Your
problem with hoisting the jib is due to too much slack in the head
stay which is laying in the jib halyard causing added friction.
