Jib hardware

Greetings all. I am on a newly acquired 45 in the Virgins and as i am working my way through all the broken stuff i started playing with the sails and i noticed that when i hoist the jib (doesnt seem to be anything to rig a clew to on my boat btw) the camber spar which hung fine when the sail was down will definitely not clear the mast when the sail is up, so i cannot tack (well, sail…) without risk of smacking the mast with it. As there is no bigger Freedom out there than a 45 it cannot be a spar from another Freedom…what am i doing wrong? Also, the bigger loop on the end of the boom points down, yes? Dont laugh, its a new system for me…Thanks folks!

i meant tack not clew of course…

Here is a great general post on the Camberspar

Camber Spar Information

I had a similar problem with it banging on mast during tack and found a few hints from others which are noted here. Another hint was to be sure jib halyard is tight

Forestay Tension ?

I had this on my 32 check the tension on the forestay
The sail moves in and out about 6 in on the camber spar
Needed to tighten the stay

Staytoo loosecan also cause the stayto rub on the cross bat of the
pulpit had to replace mine due to wear .

Well, i have tried all the suggestions and since nothing seemed to prevent the camber spar from hitting the mast decided time for half measures
was past and chopped a few inches off the insert, then drilled and tapped two new holes so now i have 3 possible positions for the insert to ride inside the spar. Problem solved, the jib seems to keep a nice shape.
